In NSW to optain property or financial advantage by deceipt is an offence.
Ryan Tandy, the then Cantebury Bulldogs player was found guilty of a deception offence. Namely, intentionally giving away a penalty to the North Queensland Cowboys in front of the posts so others would succeed in a “first-points-scorer” bet.
Section 192E of the CRIMES ACT 1900 (NSW) states
(1) A person who, by any deception, dishonestly:
(a) obtains property belonging to another, or
(b) obtains any financial advantage or causes any financial disadvantage, is guilty of the offence of fraud.
